FRIDAY MUSIC
QUESTION
Like many creatives, I have always found inspiration in music while working. In many cases I will create a specific playlist to match the tone of the creative or branding being developed to ensure it has the right attitude.

On Friday, January 20 of 2015 I was at a loss as to what music to choose to work to. I offhandedly posted the question to my friends on Facebook, and a digital community was conceived.

Since that day, The Friday Music Question has grown to reach thousands of people on a weekly basis and was mentioned on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert in March of 2022. It's become a safe place on the web to discuss music, share new and old tracks, and find others that appreciate good tunes.

Once a week The Friday Music Question asks an opinion-driven, sometimes provocative question about the industry. Group members reply in-line, and comment on others choices, creating an open, organic dialogue.

The group uses four primary social media outlets: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. The demographics of each are unique, and the answers are sometimes surprising, but always entertaining.

Included on this page are the evolutionary steps of The Friday Music Question along with a little bonus at the end. If you love music, and are looking for a place to share that interest...join us.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Sometimes big ideas have small beginnings. With a simple question on a personal Facebook post I unwittingly created a space I didn't even know was needed. The first question garnered about 35 replies, the second one a week later was double that, and so forth.

MAZEL TOV! IT'S A BRAND
Before long the idea was more solidified, the group larger, and the engagement robust. It required a name. It required a brand.

ONE QUESTION, FOUR PLATFORMS
Far from its humble beginnings, The Friday Music Question now reaches thousands of people every week. Each question is scheduled to post at 3am EST on every Friday. With the reach of 4 social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, & Twitter) and a consistent schedule, the community has grown to be a group where members are invested, make their own posts, and engage on a regular basis.

HUNDREDS OF QUESTIONS, THOUSANDS OF ANSWERS
Over the years we have rarely repeated a question. Sometimes the questions are generated by the admin, and sometimes they are posited by the members. What we can always count on are entertaining responses and recommendations for songs you may not have heard yet. We've asked hundreds of questions, we've gotten thousands of answers...and they are all archived for members to revisit at their leisure.

BLOGS, SURVEYS, & MERCH
Like most social media groups, The Friday Music Question has grown beyond its original purpose. Today it features commentary, topic-specific polls, blogs, and event announcements. Heck...we even have merchandise now. Want a t-shirt?

SONGS TO WORK BY...ENJOY
In the end, The Friday Music Question is still a place to find new music, learn what others think of it, and offer an opinion in a safe environment...A rare thing on the internet now. If you are like me, and you like a little music to move you along while you work...Be my guest to listen to a sample of my own personal playlist. If you like what you hear and are looking for like-minded people, join us.
